Parked in the Renault 4 across from a graveyard in Inch, Co.Kerry, visual artist Laura Fitzgerald presents her practice and reads a new short story accompanied by her father during this episode of K7 dans la 4L.

Laura Fitzgerald is a visual artist based in Inch, Co. Kerry. Laura’s work is colourful, playful, and distinctly humorous. Often handwritten comments and narratives accompany her drawings and paintings, sometimes referencing personal experiences and sometimes pointing to much broader issues. Laura’s work can be simultaneously dark but interspersed with lightness and wit. Moving between the local and the global, she references climate change and agricultural shifts in the context of residual colonialism in rural Ireland, the complicated relationships between land ownership and land occupation that have arisen circumstantially. Fitzgerald’s practice navigates these tense conversations, uncertain of any solution.

Laura Fitzgerald’s drawing from Greetings from the Countryside (Strong Emotions), reflecting on lived experience, relationships between neighbours, and conventional road signals.
