Donal Dineen’s iconic Backstory club night brings people from all over together through music and dance.

As tour de force embarks on the final leg of the journey, Donal makes his way to an off-site Backstory location to mark the arrival of the Renault 4 back in Dublin with a set that echoes the freshly completed journey across Ireland driving this 1960s iconic French car.

Backstory dance floors are known for their rhythmic consciousness, buzzing atmosphere and cathartic flow. With great perception and compassion, Donal creates a transient third space for encounter and movement. Mesmerising footage from the vantage point of the car windscreen on the high roads and byroads of rural Ireland contribute the visuals as Donal draws from a melting pot of musical styles from across the world.

Donal recently moved back to Kerry from Dublin to make a short documentary film there about set dancing, focusing on his father. It pays homage to the unique traditional music of Sliabh Luachra before mapping the arc of his own singular journey into sound. Donal is a promotor, broadcaster, producer and DJ and in the 90s he fronted the ground-breaking RTE music tv show 'No Disco'. He went on to host a seminal radio show on the then fledgling Today FM and has been a DJ fixture across Ireland for more than 25 years playing all the major festivals including Electric Picnic, Body & Soul, All Together Now, Open Ear, Another Love Story and many more.
